Reliance Jio to likely launch in August: Report

The much awaited Reliance Jio’s 4G service could launch on August, says Economic Times.

Reliance Jio is likely to launch on 15 August with the initial plan named Freedom which comes with bundled voice and data. Reliance Jio is speculated to provide its services at a very competitive pricing to attract more consumers.

“The teams had been forewarned about a launch thrice earlier. But this time, the management means business,” quoted ET. The Economic Times report mentions that people familiar with the plans say the data plans will be cheaper compared to what rivals offer currently.

Reliance Jio has already opened its gates for consumers of its sister company LYF Mobiles. LYF mobiles start from Rs 2,999 and every phone comes bundled with free Voice and data for 90 days which is quite a bargain. Every LYF mobile also supports VOLTE, which offers higher call quality, along with faster video and multimedia services.

The launch of Reliance Jio will inevitably trigger a pricing war among its competitors like Airtel, Idea and Vodafone which will ultimately benefit the consumers.

Reliance Jio’s Plans

Reliance Jio could be offering its data plan starting at around Rs 80 with 1GB data, which is cheap compared to its competitors which offer the same at Rs 100 – Rs 250.

Please note that the plan could be very different than mentioned above as these are just speculations.

Reliance Jio had acquired 4G spectrum in the 2300 MHz band, and has since strengthened its holdings in the 850 MHz and 1800 MHz bands. The 850 MHz band has the best propagation properties, and a network on that is being switched on gradually on a city by city basis, said the ET report.

Only time will tell if Reliance Jio starts its operations this August or if it delays its launch the fourth time.
